Afghanistan Mobile Money Senior Executive Seminar
Both the governments of Afghanistan and USA will prepare the mobile money action plan.
To discuss the plan of transmission money via mobile phone in Afghanistan, a seminar was held in Kabul Star Hotel on 26th august 2012. The seminar was participated by H.E. Amirzai Sangin Minister of Communication and Information Technology, H.E. Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal Minister of Economy, Abdullah Samadi Chairman of Afghan Breshna Company, Noorllah Dillawari director of De Afghanistan Bank, USID representatives, government officials and media representative.
H. E. Minister of MCIT expressing his support for the mobile Money Action Plan, said; “the Afghan government now has a roadmap to exponential growth that will support the continued advancement of the Afghan Telecommunication Sector and provide the Afghan people with improved access to transparent and efficient financial services”. Further he said that the mobile money plan was tentatively started three years ago started by Roshan Telecommunication Company.
Less than five percent of the population has bank accounts, nearly 60 percent Afghans use mobile phones and more than 83% live in the network coverage areas.
Ambassador of USA in Afghanistan Hilda Arellano, the U.S. Embassy’s Coordinating Director for Development and Economic Affairs said,” we have undeniable success with mobile money in Afghanistan, extending financial services to previously none served populations and improving transparency in payment flows.
It is noteworthy, that government and nongovernment employees, army forces, pension and residents of remote areas will get advantage without waste of time. USAID’s Financial Access for Investing in the Development of Afghanistan(FAUDA) project manages the 5 million dollars mobile money innovation grant fund, which helps build innovative mobile money applications and serves as a catalyst for economic development in Afghanistan.
