MCIT-Launches Distance learning in Afghanistan’s Universities

Online learning linking Kabul and Baghlan Universities and Afghanistan Research and Education Network officially opened in a joint Press Conference of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) and Ministry of Higher Education (Mohe), which was held on Tuesday June 25, 2013 in the Scientific Council Hall of Kabul University.

At the beginning of  conference The Minister of Higher Education Mr. Obaedullah Obaed expressed his satisfaction of the opening of the two valuable Projects ;and said: based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed Between MCIT and Mohe last year about providing Information Technology services to the Universities of the country and their connection to the Universities of the world through Fiber Optic, Five Universities of the country are connected with the Center of Research and Education Network, the mentioned Network is connected with(GEANT) and (TEIN4).

Further he said: we hope the opening of the two projects to be effective for improving the quality of learning process of the Universities and enable the students to compete with the Universities of the world.

Latter Minister of MCIT Amirzai Sangin also expressed his pleasure and said: Information Technology plays great and important role in today’s life. The present era of Information Technology has widely grown throughout the world and the most people have access to telephone and Internet.

He mentioned that: our country also has seen significant progress in the field of IT; currently 20 million people have access to the Mobile Phone and internet services are rapidly developing and it is set 80% the population of the country will be taken under the coverage of Internet services.

He added: that as we know the importance and basic role of the IT in deferent field of life and education, therefore we plan to equip and provide our schools and universities with modern and advanced technology, and MCIT will cooperate with Ministry of Higher Education.

At the end  director of Kabul University Habibullah Habib stated that the development of the Information Technology really has valuable and positive impact on teaching and learning process in Universities and schools of the country.

It is worth saying that the Afghanistan Research and Education Network is connected with the Centers of Research in Europe and Sought Asia and it provides opportunity to professors and teachers of Afghanistan to use distance learning from the world’s leading sources of research.
