MCIT Celebrates Women International Day
International Women’s Day was celebrated by the MCIT with a ceremony held on 8 March 2016. at the beginning of the event the Technical Deputy Minister of MCIT, Mr. Baraiyalai Hasam spoke about the position of women from Islamic prospect and called the 8th March as Women’s’ International solidarity for combating against discriminations and inequality. In his speech he referred to the words of scholars that elucidated the dignity of the woman and asserted that women are the inseparable part of human society and development. Mr. Hasam continued his speech by focusing on latest improvements in the status of women in the country and their significant empowerment during the last one and half decades. He said the Afghan government has laid out plans, rules and actions plans which if implemented thoroughly, undoubtedly can promote the role of women in various spheres of life.
Mr. Hasam added: “Fortunately, the telecommunication and information technology sector as an important part of the Afghan government plays significant role for the growth and employment of women in Afghanistan”. He said, although, majority of those recruited at ICT and Telecom sector, are women but still there are lots of gender gaps noticed. In addition, he added that the new MCIT leadership is determined to increase the role and presence of talented women both at higher decision making levels and its mid-level management.
Mr. Hasam emphasized saying that in order to improve the status of women in the country and promote their position in governance; the Afghan National Unity Government has put forward realistic policies and supporting regulations.
Following him, Mr. Mohammad Yasin Samim, the MCIT spokesperson congratulated women’s International day and highlighted the messages of 8th March for the participants. He added: ‘ this day is not a symbolic one, but it represents the hard work and systematic demonstration and combats of women who were tired of exploitation, unequal wages for equal works and in appropriate treatment and unfriendly work environment. He further hoped that the celebration of such meaningful days by government and non-government organizations should be considered as the milestones for collective efforts of women, and beginning of realistic plans for the government and non-government organization to introduce real changes in the lives of women throughout Afghanistan.
Then, The Gender Manager of MCIT, Malalai Yousufzai and the Acting Director of Information Security Department Nadia Hashimi respectively congratulated 8 March to participating women, and called for the wider participation of women towards and implementation of MCIT strategic plan which in their believes can promote the status of women in ICT sector. Furthermore, they asked the MCIT leadership to strengthen women’s participation and decision making rule both at center and provinces.
In the end of the session some appraisal certificates were distributed by the leadership of MCIT to the participants who were earlier selected through competitive process.
