National ICT Council Holds Meeting

The meeting of information and communication technology’s high council headed by H.E. second vice president and chairman of the council was held on Saturday afternoon. In this meeting H. E. Eng. Amirzai Sangin minister of communication and information technology presented information about the coverage of telephone services, the development of Fiber Optic in different  areas of the country, expansion of internet , e Government, National ID cards first.

Minister of communication and information technology counted the progress in mentioned fields said that more than 18 million people across the country benefited from mobile telephone services, fiber optic services, development program has completed in some areas and  development efforts in remaining central and southern provinces and Takhar, Badakhshan  has continuing.

He said that with development of optical fiber the prices of internet has decrease and number of users increases day by day, and added the e-Government is a step toward self-sufficiency.

H. E. Obaidullah Obaid Minister of Higher Education mentioned importance of the agreement signed between ministries of MCIT and Higher Education and said that with the implementation of this agreement the ministry and higher education institutions will have access to required facilities and to the world research centers.   

It is planned that another agreement will be signed between MCIT and ministry of public health. With this, more facilities will be provided to treat people in remote areas.

The deputy minister of MCIT presented information about the agreement between public works and MCIT and gave information about transmission of the fiber optic services budget to the minister of public works. 

Deputy Minister of interior affairs reported the meeting that the attempts for distribution of E- National ID cards (NID) has been continuing, but has faced shortage of budget.

In order to implement the decision of the council of ministries, the council obliged ministry of finance to provide initial cost in this regard, which is more than 5 million dollars.
