Subject: Agreement for cheaper internet through Iran
Shahzad Aryobee Minister of Communications and Information Technology during a two-day official visit to Iran, met with Mr Mohammad Reza Azari Jahromi Minister of Telecommunications and Technology of Iran and discussed the issues of bilateral relations between the two countries, in particular the development of cooperation in the Internet.
At the meeting, the two sides agreed over the importance of the geographical location of Afghanistan in the regional connectivity, lower prices for Internet and telecommunication services and Fibre optic cable connections at a lower cost from Iran.
Shahzad Aryobee Minister of Communications and Technology of Afghanistan, and Mr Mohammad Reza Azari Jahromi Minister of Communications and Technology of Iran Also agreed on the connection of fibre optics through Herat province and Zaranj city and connection of Afghanistan with Chabahar, which in addition to connecting the country to the sea (Submarine cable) and regional interconnection will also pave the way for Afghanistan to be an internet transit point.
Minister Aryobee said: that along with developing good relations with Iran, he wants to buy the Internet at a lower price from that country and to reduce the telephone communication rates between the two countries.
It should be noted that is Afghanistan connected with all its neighbouring countries, and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology intends Afghanistan as an internet transit hub to make major revenues.
Also, Afghan and Iranian ministries of communications and technology agreed to cooperate in the equipment and modernization the Institute of Telecommunications and Technology of Afghanistan.
