MCIT inaugurates the DEWAE (Innovation Beacon) program & Announce Competition for Innovative Ideas and Solutions

Minister of Communications & Information Technology (MCIT) H. E. Amirzai Sangin inaugurated the DEWAE (Innovation Beacon) program of MCIT and the Announcement of the DEWAE Program Challenges for Innovation and Solution in a press conference, which was held in MCIT’s conference room on Monday 27th May 2013. The event was participated by leadership body of   MCIT, representatives of World Bank, UN and Mass media.

At the beginning Minister Amirzai Sangin welcomed the participants and highlighted the objective of the program: he said DEWAE is another significant initiative of the MCIT towards the development of our country. The objective of the DAWAE is the development of an innovation culture through the use of ICTs and mobile technology in the country. Through the DEWAE program MCIT  will announce various challenges and will seek the proposals of Afghans to come up with innovative ideas and solutions in the field of Mobile Technology to address the announced challenges in an effective and efficient manner.

Further he stated that: This program will run for a period of two years and will be completed by June 2016. The winners of the competition will be awarded monetary prizes ranging from 2000 USD up to 80000 USD.Through this program around 200 awards will be given and the total monetary value of the Awards is 5 million USD funded by the World Bank. Afghanistan Information Management Services (AIMS) is contracted by MCIT to implement and manage the program.

And also he explained that there will be four categories under which the awards will be provided: m- government, m-technology, young technologist and innovators (students) and ICT champion awards.

Through this event DEWAE announces 9 challenges and are expecting proposals from Afghan innovators to participate in the first round of the competitions. The challenges are announced on the DEWAE.
