MCIT-Celebrates World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2013

 The Ministry of Communication & Information Technology has celebrated the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day during a gathering at the Information Communication Technology Institute (ICTI)on Wednesday 15th May 2013S.

The purpose of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide.

17 May marks the anniversary of the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention and the creation of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

To mark this occasion MCIT held a conference at ICTI. The event was participated by Deputy Finance & Admin and Acting Minister of MCIT His Excellency Wahabbudin Sadaat, Board of Directors, Sahib Khan representatives of Telecommunication Commission of Afghan Parliament, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information, government officials and foreign guests. 

At the beginning H.E. Wahabbudin Sadaat welcomed the guests and participants. Then he delivered an informative and comprehensive speech about the importance of the Day and said:” the reason of celebrating of the day is the WTISD member countries provide their people with information about the importance of mentioned day in order to get outreach and give Information to their people to get better use of IT in their lives”. Considering the theme of  World telecommunication day 2013, which is "ICTs and improving road safety” Mr. Sadaat emphasized drivers should not use mobile phones while driving, which creates traffic problems and causes road accidents and casualties.

 H. E. Sadaat also spoke about the running programs of MCIT: to improve the quality and capacity of postal services, converting analog TV system into digital system, urban address system and conducting first International ICT Conference and Exhibition of Afghanistan is going to hold July 7-9,2013. He mentioned that there are areas, which are not provided effectively and sufficient telephone and internet services yet, therefore Post Department must be promoted to a government Post service corporation. And also he informed the audience about the aim of first international ICT conference in Kabul city he said; reinforcing regional cooperation among different countries for accelerating ICT integration, sharing knowledge and best practices for ICT and service delivery, providing proper environment for realization the potential of ICT for socioeconomic development and displaying the potential and achievement of Afghanistan in ICT sector development.

Then the message of secretary general of the ITU Hamadan Tori was presented by Abdul Aziz representative of UNDP.

After that, Member of Parliament H.E Sahib Khan and head of Traffic Gen. Nezamudin mentioned the value and importance of ICT and the theme of the day in 2013 respectively.

 Later video message of general Secretary of ITU was broadcasted to the conference:

 We fully support and appreciate the achievements of MCIT in field of Communications and Information Technology and will do it in the future too, said the Sahib Khan, representative of Telecommunication Commission of upper house of Parliament. He asked the representative of telecommunication network to offer suitable and inexpensive rate, which is more advanced and facilitator to the people of Afghanistan.

Then Deputy Minister of Ministry of Culture and Information congratulate the Day and said that, this day is a common Day between MCIT and Ministry of Culture and Information  and stressed we should avoid deviation from information technology

Then eng. Gul Ahmad Rastman director of Afghan Telecom and Umar Rashid from Afghan Wireless Company congratulated the Day and mentioned the importance and vital role of the ICT in the daily activities of people.
