World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2012
The Ministry of Communication & Information Technology has celebrated the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day during a gathering at the Intercontinental Hotel Wednesday 16th May 2012. The event was officially inaugurated with the recitation of a few verses of the holly Quran; subsequently the national anthem was played.
May 17th is an international day for the Telecommunication and celebrated by WTISD members all around the world.
To mark this occasion a conference held at Intercontinental Hotel with the participation of His Excellency Eng. Baryalai Hasaam Acting Minister and Deputy Minister Technical, His Excellency Wahabudin Sadaat Deputy Minister Finance & Admin of MCIT, Board of Directors and Representatives of Telecommunication Commission of Afghan Parliament, His Excellency Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Ministry, government officials and foreign guests.
At the beginning H.E. Wahabudin Sadat welcomed the guests and participants. Then he delivered an informative and comprehensive speech about the importance of the Day and said:” the reason of celebrating of the day is ,the WTISD member countries provide their people with information about the importance of mentioned day in order to get outreach and give Information to their people to get better use of IT in their lives.”
Latter Eng. Baryalai Hasaam Said: we have entered in cooperation with the ministries of Education, higher Education and Public Health in order to provide them, what they need and get proper and better advantage of new system of information technology”. About the service in Afghanistan he said: During 1391/2012 MCIT has conducted necessary measures in order to meet the global targets of information society in the country such as; offering phone services to 82 percent of population of the country, attracting of investment worth of $1.7 billion, developing of Fiber Optic network, raising the quality of telecommunication services, issuing the license of 3G to Etisalat Network.” further he said that, what causes the economic growth and social development is ICT and International concerted struggle in this repect. He mentioned that the slogan of this year is (women into information technology and telecommunication) thus MCIT would rather to assist Ministry of Women Affairs in this regard.
Later video message of general Secretary of ITU was broadcasted to the conference:
We fully support and appreciate the achievements of MCIT in field of Communications and Information Technology and will do it in the future too, said the Sahib Khan, representative of Telecommunication Commission of upper house of Parliament. He asked the representative of telecommunication network to offer suitable and inexpensive rate, which is more advanced and facilitator to the people of Afghanistan.
Then Deputy Minister of Ministry of Culture and Information mentioned that “we cordially appreciate cooperation of MCIT, this is era of technology, so without IT services offering of good services are impossible to our country.
Then representatives of Afghan Wireless, Etisalat, Roshon, Companies, and Director of Afghan Telecom expressed their opinions about the importance of Telecommunications and Information Technology respectively.
