MCIT-Celebrates World Telecommunication & Information Society Day 2015
The Ministry of Communications & Information Technology celebrated the World Telecommunications and Information Society day on Tuesday May 19, 2015 in Kabul to mark the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865 and the creation of the ITU.” Telecommunications and ICTs: Drivers of innovation is the theme of 2015. The event took place on the occasion was attended by H.E Dr. Abdullah Abdullah Chief Executive Officer of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Second deputy Executive Ustad Muhaqeq, Minister of MCIT Abdul Razaq, Vahidi, Minister of Information & Culture Abdul Bari Jahani, high level state profiles, members of Parliament, heads of private communication companies, leadership of chamber of commerce and mass media. World Telecommunication Day has been celebrated annually since 1969, marking the founding of ITU and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865.
The purpose of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide.
At the beginning Abdulrazaq Vahidi Minister of MCIT welcomed the guests and participants. Then he delivered an informative, academic and comprehensive speech about the importance of the Day and said:” the reason of celebrating of the day is the WTISD member countries provide their people with information about the importance of mentioned day in order to get outreach and give Information to their people to get better use of IT in their lives”. Considering the theme of World telecommunication day 2015, which is Telecommunication and ICTs: Drivers of innovation” brings together public and private sectors, emerging markets and industry investors to explore the further development of the ICT sector like no other event.
Minister Vahidi also spoke about the running programs of MCIT and said: that the registration status of population such as: e- ID Cards, passport, driving license, civil documents and diploma are basic programs of the ministry and will be operational soon. He continued that the completion of Fiber Optec and its connection to neighboring countries, anticorruption, regulation the telecom space “SIM card registration” lawful technological competition and access to the information is the other major program of the ministry.
He highlighted that: while Afghanistan entered later into the field of communication and information technology, but in a short time in a unique speed has been able to keep pace with advanced countries.
After that the Chief Executive of the Afghan government H. E. Dr. Abdullah Abdullah congratulating Telecommunication and ICT Society Day appreciated the achievements of MCIT and said: we can use the ICT in deferent areas of life, using ICT brings quality and transparency in our services.
He said: that the MCIT plays central role in technological services and the cooperation of other institutes is a critical need.
Then Deputy Chief Executive Mohammad Muhaqeq also appreciated the growth of ICT in Afghanistan and said: that development of information technology is essential means for strengthening a country.
After that Minister of Information and Culture said: that technology and information society plays important role for the life and sprit of a nation.
At the end International Telecommunication Union Secretory General’s message was read at the ceremony.
